WHAT KIND OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED IN AN AIRPORT DEMOLITION PROJECT?

Prior to the demolition of an building, a hazardous materials investigation must be completed, to determine what kind of side services might be needed to be executed, and airports are no exception for this investigation of environmental site assessments, and prepared specifications. The specification package should include hazardous materials removal, packaging and disposal, demolition, site grading, site compaction, site safety and the protection of surrounding property.

As part of a complete project management service, the contractor should go through a tendering process and oversaw the demolition from start to finish. ECG gets responsible for the day to day activities on the site, including public awareness sessions, such as the liaison between client and the Airport Authority to ensure the lands are received in clean condition.

Prior to demolition of the interior of a plating shop, a prime consultancy needs to be taken in account to inventory plating chemicals, perform a hazardous materials assessment of the building, prepare specification packages, pre-qualify contractors and manage a tender process.

Chemicals must be packaged and removed from site and the contractor is responsible for overseeing waste streams and ensuring no further contamination of surrounding buildings or land spaces. Upon completion of chemical removal, hazardous waste remediation and interior demolition, a Phase II Environmental Site assessment must be carried on.

Key Features to be considered:

  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessment
  • Phase II Environmental Site Assessment
  • Designated Substance Assessments
  • Hazardous Chemical Remediation
  • Demolition planning and oversight
  • Project management
